Great overview! Never was a fan of Firefly though, as I thought the Alliance lacked menace. And much of the problems with Firefly you mentioned baffled me when I first watched the show.

I would like to point out that there does exist several live-action shows that are in the space western genre that were released before Firefly. First, there's Blake's 7 which was released in 1978 about a group of outlaws fighting the system. Secondly, there's Farscape, which was released in 1999, which is about space pirates on the run from the law in space. Lastly, there's Starhunter, which was released in 2000, which is about a group of mercenaries who are chasing down space pirates to find a missing relative.

Thank you for reading—I'll have to check out all those other shows! Space westerns were absolutely a well-established genre well before Firefly

I write when I am walking. I make notes on paper I keep in my pocket. When in public spaces, I observe. I never write in public spaces.

Your brain is not like mine- the coffee shop chaos sounds horrible to me, and I love the sound of the serene place. Is this an age thing or a brain thing?
